The AFM number is the Greek tax number. It’s comparable to the BSN (citizen service number) in the Netherlands or a tax number in another country.

You can apply for an AFM number free of charge from the Greek Tax Authority (DOY – ΔOΥ). You must either report there in person or, if you are unable to be present, authorize someone (e.g., a Greek lawyer or accountant) to arrange this on your behalf. We recommend authorizing someone so you don’t have to go there yourself (saving time), as the process is conducted entirely in Greek and requires a Greek address (which is complicated if you are buying a property in Greece).
