Greece is the most popular European destination for hospitality investors: what does this mean for Rhodes?

There is considerable international interest in investing in Greece. Research by Hospitality Investor, an international media platform focusing on the capital markets in the hotel and hospitality sector, shows that Greece is ranked top among the international investors surveyed in the European hospitality sector for 2026.

No fewer than 43% chose Greece as the most attractive European investment destination, followed by Italy (29%), Spain (14%) and France (14%).

The study focuses specifically on investments in hotels and hospitality property. The results therefore do not directly reflect the holiday home market, but they do show that Greece is currently attracting significant interest from professional international investors in tourism property.

And what does this mean for Rhodes?

Rhodes is not ranked separately in the study. However, we can see that substantial investment is currently taking place in the hospitality sector on Rhodes as well.

Last winter, we reported that an investment programme worth over €250 million had been announced for the redevelopment of the 18-hole golf course, along with the associated infrastructure, in Afandou. In addition to modernising the 18-hole golf course, the project involves the construction of three luxury hotels, a marina, a shopping centre and tourist accommodation.

Such investments contribute to the ongoing modernisation and improvement in the quality of Rhodes’ tourism offering.

Of interest to real estate owners

Of course, the study does not mean that real estate prices on Rhodes will automatically rise. However, the strong interest shown by international hospitality investors in Greece, and therefore also in Rhodes, is a positive sign.

Investments in hotels, resorts, infrastructure and amenities can make a destination more attractive to both tourists and second-home buyers. In the longer term, this can help drive demand for high-quality property in attractive locations.

The main conclusion? Greece currently tops the list among the international hospitality investors surveyed. The multi-million investments currently taking place on Rhodes are part of the broader picture of a Greek hospitality market that is attracting significant interest from investors.
